Some universal life programs allow a consumer to withdraw their original basis as a partial withdrawal (assuming that there is enough accumulated funds) of cash value. This is an advantageous way of removing your basis tax free. Often times a universal life contract that is used for supplemental retirement purposes will allow partial withdrawals.
